Green Farmer Community (GFC) or we often called ourselves SCY, is Cambodia’s leading family-owned organic chicken producer, with a focus on harnessing sustainable practices including the use of solar and environmentally friendly production techniques. This includes training the farmers in our supply chain and supplying them with the use of sustainable bio-charcoal derived from coconut husks, solar incubators for hatching chicks.
We started our business when we recognized a need for both naturally raised and organic chicken meat, and our desire to ensure better business practices to preserve our environment whilst raising healthy and tasty chickens. Our community focus is integral to our business, helping the farmers to increase their income whilst changing their chicken raising practices.
Our farmers are both our suppliers and our customers as they purchase all the inputs for raising baby chicks from GFC. This includes the chicks themselves, charcoal for warming, vaccinations for health, and feedstock for food. After 3.5 months and once the farmers have raised the chicks - to approximately 1.2 kilograms - we purchase the hens back from them for sale into the local market as live chickens or processed meat. The farmers have choice to sell back to us when the quality and standard are matching to requirement.
We have a direct connection to local markets and markets and restaurants in Kampong Thom, Phnom Penh, and an online ordering service through our Facebook page. We are well known for the high quality of our product and its unique, natural traditional Cambodian taste. Our quality and reputation for organic chicken also provide a competitive advantage over the traditional chicken farmers in our area, who are typically not focused on hygiene, quality, and organic and natural processes.
GFC is based in Kampong Thom and was founded in 2019, by Mr. CHHOUD Den, a passionate advocate for creating better sustainable community-based farming practices whilst reducing his environmental impact. GFC operates as a lean and efficient team of experts, including the other young team Ms. Voleak, Mr. Moni, Mr. Sok in sales and incoming staff for farm operations, accounting, and product management.
